Introducing Muskrat News

Hello, and welcome to the blog for Muskrat News, the news show for kids!

We’ll post some profiles of our news anchors soon, but first I want to tell you a little about our show. Muskrat News is a three- to five-minute weekly news show distributed on YouTube. The high concept is “NewsHour meets the Muppets.” The show is hosted by a variety of hand puppets. Our intended audience is children from educated, bougeois families, ages 4 to 7, whose parents want them to be aware of geography, politics, history, and current events. We cover one top story of the week each week, and may include interviews or news analysis. The show comes out on Thursday afternoons.

We hope to eventually syndicate the show through Current TV or Blip. For production, we have in mind mining UnionDocs or the Meerkat Media Collective, and for writers we want to find some people involved with Guernica Magazine or the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater (we know a few people at each of these spots). Once we have several months worth of production experience, we may begin trying to raise funds for more ambitious shows through Kickstarter or Indigogo. We will also maintain social media channels on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr.
